Jim and Carrie Nichols shared the story of their two-year-old son, Hunter, with Derek Gilbert. Hunter was born with several holes in his heart, Down’s Syndrome, and leukemia, but Jim plans on taking Hunter out riding in his newly restored ‘72 Mustang for as long as he can.

Judge Kelly says he’ll make a formal announcement about his political intentions Saturday morning at 11 under the burr oak tree on the Katy Trail in McBaine. It’s a good bet that he’ll be the Democratic candidate against incumbent Rep. Ed Robb in the 24th District next fall. Meanwhile, Kelly took the opportunity to blast Republicans for what he sees as an assault on the University of Missouri-Columbia and engaged in a spirited exchange with former Republican legislative candidate Patrick Crabtree.

Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, talked with Derek Gilbert about the folly of gun control legislation. It’s never worked, Pratt says, because most gun control laws only make it harder for law-abiding citizens to own guns — and they’re not the problem.

Darren and Jenny Wade visited with Derek Gilbert to talk about their three-year-old son, Austin, and his fight to overcome massive brain damage caused by a stroke when he was only five weeks old.
